Having been approached by Paul with a request for original pieces, Darren set about writing a collection of compositions pastiching a wide variety of musical theatre composers and popular music genres.

Although soloistic, the pieces are intended to be played in a pit orchestra set up i.e. seated with instruments on stands. There are fully orchestrated backing tracks available for all the pieces. As a side note, playing along to the tracks whilst wearing a single headphone for monitoring is recommended. Studio session musicians wear at least one headphone whilst playing as standard, but with the increased use of click tracks and workplace noise regulations in theatre, headphone monitoring is becoming more commonplace. It affects how you perceive your own sound and creates another obstacle for quick instrument switches, so it’s something worth getting comfortable with before having to do it in the workplace.

There are four volumes (currently) with ‘Doubling Down’ being the first containing seven pieces for Flute, Clarinet and Alto Saxophone. Check out the products below for further details and links to purchase from Darren's website.
